Mets Acquire Kelly Shoppach

Well, the Mets finally got the offensive catcher they were after. Shoppach, is 32 years old and is a poor contact, decent power hitting backstop that has bounced around the American League throughout his career. The deal is for a player to be named later, so yay I guess. This is most likely a tryout for Shoppach and if he performs well enough he will be battling with Josh Thole for the starting catchers gig come Spring. Nice post deadline move by Sandy.  Here are Kelly's stats thus far.

R.A. Dickey Dominates

Talk about a stopper. Dickey shut down the Marlins yesterday with a complete game 10 strikeout effort, leading to his 15th win of the season. Where would the Mets be without this guy? Quite frankly, I'm afraid to think about that scenario.

Mets Cruise into San Diego

Well, maybe the Mets aren't dead yet. Coming off a dominating win over Barry Zito and the Giants, the Mets roll into San Diego, winning their last 5/8 games. R.A. Dickey and that pesky knuckler of his, kick off the three game set, looking to notch his 15th win of the season. While the team looks energized and a lot more focused as of late, they still sit 8.5 games out of a playoff berth, with more than a few teams ahead of them in the hunt. However, if there is one thing that we have learned about this team throughout the year, it is that they will compete and continue to fight until game 162. That alone is a reason to watch. But, how about the fact that they are actually playing pretty decent baseball and are doing the things that got them rolling in the first half. Great starting pitching and timely hitting have once again proved that they might be the most important aspects of the game and when the team are doing those two things well, good things tend to happen. It remains to be seen if Jason Bay can regain even a fraction of his former self or if Johan Santana can come back and stay healthy for the rest of the season, but if those two guys can be who they're supposed to be, watch out. Then again, that's two major questions that a contender would have answered already.

Anyway, like I was saying, the Mets don't need to trade away their farm system to acquire a rental player that won't help them this season. Whoa, didn't see you there guys! Seems like I've been talking to myself for the past few weeks, mixed in with a trip to the West coast that had me slacking like I've never slacked before. However, over the past few days of careful deliberation with myself, I have finally returned to save you guys from your boredom and lack of baseketball-ness.

That's it guys. It's over. Jeremy Lin, the savior of last season is no longer a member of the Knicks. We found a gem last year and now he is gone. We don't get to watch him grow and thrive in New York and we don't get a second act to Linsanity. All because now of all times, the Knicks did not want to spend money.

Mets Lose a Heart Breaker 5-4 In Washington

Good thing I'm not in NY for this one. After Jordany Valdespin's heroics in the 9th, providing the Mets with a 3-2 lead after a pinch hit three run bomb, the bullpen blows two separate leads and the the Mets lose their fourth straight game after the break. Sandy, if you're reading, and I know you are, we need bullpen help. I'm sure you already know this, but that's the deal. And I'm not talking about at the deadline, I'm talking about RIGHT THIS INSTANT. This could have been a great win and instead is a devastating loss. Please help. I'm dying over here.
